Joanna Randall | Executive Director
Joanna was named executive Director of Cedar Lake Village, Hoeger House and Good Samaritan Society – Olathe in 2005. Joanna was previously the Health Care Administrator for GSS-Olathe for 4 years and GSS-Lyons, KS for 4 years. Overall, Joanna has served in senior care and services for more than 22 years. A graduate of Kansas State University, Joanna has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a secondary degree in Gerontology. Joanna also has a Master’s degree from Wichita State University in Public Health. Joanna and her husband love to travel. They particularly enjoy scuba diving, camping and getting on the hiking trails with their dog. Joanna has a passion to serve older persons and ensure that they have a loving and safe place to call home.
Deborah Beckwith | Senior Living Manager
Deborah is a licensed adult care home administrator. She joined Good Samaritan Society and became the Senior Living Manager at Cedar Lake Village in 2016. Deborah began her career in healthcare in 1994 and has held various roles. She transitioned to senior care in 2004. She received her Bachelors of Science in Sociology and Psychology from Emporia State University. Deborah is passionate about her role in serving seniors in our community. Deborah grew up on a Kansas farm and loves spending time with her family and being outdoors. She delights in her faith and enjoys the fellowship in her church.
Lauren Wheeler | Assisted Living and Memory Care Director
Lauren has been the Assisted Living and Memory Care Director at Cedar Lake Village since 2016. Lauren has her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies and Human Services with secondary degrees in Long Term Care Administration and Gerontology. She has been a licensed adult care home administrator since 2014 and has been working in the senior care and services field since 2012. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and their two rambunctious dogs. She’s a huge K-State fan, enjoys spending weekends at the lake and volunteering at the local Elks Lodge.
Sharon Buford | Sales & Marketing Director
Sharon Buford is the Sales & Marketing Director at Cedar Lake Village. Sharon became a non-traditional student and completed her BSBA in Business & Marketing at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO in 1995, the same year her son graduated from high school. She completed her MBA from Columbia College in Columbia, MO in 2001, the year before her daughter graduated from college. Sharon also owned a T-shirt, embroidery & air brush shop in the Columbia Mall for three years and worked as a financial planner by earning her Series 6 & 63, life & health licenses. Sharon joined the Cedar Lake Village team in October 2018, but came with over 20 years of experience in senior living and pharmaceutical sales. She loves working with and getting to know new people. Sharon enjoys researching genealogy, reading, spending time with friends and especially any time possible with her three grandsons and one granddaughter, as well as their parents.
Cheyenne Dains | Wellness Director
Cheyenne joined our team as the Wellness Director in November 2019. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Performance from Emporia State University and is a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise. Cheyenne began working in senior living right after she graduated from Emporia State and she loves that she gets to use her passion for health and wellness alongside her love of working with seniors. Along with Cheyenne’s love for health and wellness, she also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Dave Vierthaler | Environmental Services Director
Dave joined the Cedar Lake Village team as the Environmental Services Director in July 2019. He comes to us with 2 years of experience as the maintenance director of a memory care assisted living community. Dave graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Kansas. Dave has a varied career, including years of sales and project management and he owned his own lawn care company for 10 years. Dave has a passion for fixing things and making things right for our residents and families. In his free time, Dave enjoys spending time with his family, going on vacations and road trips, coaching his two kids in sports, going to ball games and swimming.
James Perales, CDM | Dining Services Director
James has been our Dining Services Director at Cedar Lake Village for the last two years, but prior to that he has worked in various roles throughout the Good Samaritan Society – Communities of Olathe for the past 23 years. James has a degree in therapeutic massage, and is currently pursuing his Certified Dietary Manager certification and completing requirements for Chef de cuisine in affiliation with the American Culinary Federation (ACF). In the kitchen, James in enjoys all aspects of production, cooking and he has a particular interest in garde manger because of its artistic nature. In his free time away from the kitchen and school, he enjoys bowling, long walks, Frisbee golf and baseball.
Kelsie Tryon | Assistant Marketing Director
Kelsie joined the Good Samaritan Society team in March 2012 as the Activities Director at GSS – Olathe. In October 2014 she became the Marketing Director at Cedar Lake Village & Hoeger House. Kelsie now works part-time as the Assistant Marketing Director for Cedar Lake Village. Kelsie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies and Human Services with secondary degrees in Gerontology and Long Term Care Administration. She also has a minor in Leadership Studies and a Conflict Resolution Certificate from Kansas State. Kelsie enjoys spending time with her husband, and her twin son and daughter, while enjoying adventures throughout the Kansas City area. Reading is and always has been her favorite past-time.
Shari Caughron| Community and Marketing Liaison
Shari joined Cedar Lake Village as the Community and Marketing Liaison in the fall of 2019. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree from UMKC with a minor in Communications/Public Relations, she interned at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, where two of her four children were treated for Crohn’s Disease. Later, her work at Fleishman-Hillard Inc., a public relations and marketing firm included eight years of market research and account management. Recently remarried, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their eight children together and seven grandchildren. Shari is a freelance writer, self-improvement fan and loves connecting with her family and friends.
Edwin Shafer | Resource Development Director
Edwin joined the Good Samaritan Society-Communities of Olathe team in 2019 as the Resource Development Director. He has over four decades of experience in fundraising and public relations including nearly nine years as the Vice President of Development for Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America in Wichita, Kansas. He has conducted over 30 capital campaign planning studies and campaigns for senior living communities, youth organizations, hospitals, colleges and social service agencies. He holds a BA degree in communications from Southern Adventist University, Collegedale, Tennessee, and an MA degree in journalism and public relations from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. Since 1980 he has held the “Fellow” certification with the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy. He also held the Certified Fund Raising Executive designation from CFRE International and the Association of Fundraising Professionals for over 35 years. Ed and his wife, Connie, have two children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Ed enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending time with his wife.
Robert Tinch | Chaplain
Robert has provided pastoral care to seniors, families and staff for 12 years as the Chaplain at Good Samaritan Society – Communities of Olathe. He has his Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Counseling. He has a lifetime of experience in church ministry – providing pastoral leadership to youth, young adults and adult parishioners. He also spent 6 years as a hospital chaplain. Robert enjoys visiting his grandchildren, watching baseball with his favorite treat – a hot dog with relish! He also enjoys movies and different types of music including baroque classical, gospel, Christian, and music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
